1-2-1 Clinical Pilates

What happens at 1-2-1 Clinical Pilates appointments?

To begin with, Jennifer will explore your goals for Pilates as well as any symptoms you are having or have experienced in the past.  She will also take details about your general medical history and any ongoing health issues you have.  Finally, any necessary clinical examinations will be performed to ensure the exercises recommended are safe for you.

Jennifer will then take you through various types of Pilates exercises that she feels are most suitable for you and your goals.  You will practice these with Jennifer's guidance to ensure you are performing them safely and effectively.

Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move easily in for these appointments.  Following the appointment, Jennifer will email you videos and instructions of the exercises she recommended.

You and Jennifer will decide on the best time for a follow up appointment, where you can discuss any issues with the exercises, or be recommended some more challenging ones to ensure you keep progressing.

What is 1-2-1 Clinical Pilates for?

Pilates is an exercise system that helps increase the awareness of your body and emphasises the importance of core stability. It uses strengthening, mobility, and stretching exercises to help resolve weaknesses, compensations, and over-development.  Consequently, it can improve your posture as well as muscle and joint function.

Clinical Pilates differs from traditional Pilates in several ways. It has been modified to be suitable for those with injuries and long-term health issues, as well as the fit and healthy population. Clinical Pilates is specifically tailored to you and your needs, whether that be recurrent injuries, aches and pains, long term health conditions, or performing to the best of your abilities in a specific sport.

Pilates is one of the most effective forms of exercise for supporting low back pain — especially for expecting or new mums. It helps strengthen the core, pelvic floor, and postural muscles that work extra hard during pregnancy and childbirth.  Research published in the BJSM found that exercise routines focusing on strengthening trunk muscles are the most effective way to ease this pain. This is exactly what Pilates is designed to do!
