Sports Massage

sports massage wolverhampton service

What are sports massage appointments?

Sports massage appointment are great for relaxation, exercise recovery or general aches and pains.  You can choose between 30 or 60 minutes appointments and you decide on the areas of the body that need treatment when you attend your appointment.  At your first appointment there will be a short questionnaire to ensure that massage treatment is safe and appropriate for you.  You will need to undress the areas of the body you want to be massaged, so please wear suitable clothing.

What is sports massage for?

After exercising, it’s common to feel stiffness or pain in the muscles that have been exercised. This is called Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS), and normally occurs within 24-48 hours. DOMS is due to micro-trauma in the muscle, normally caused by exercising at a higher intensity than you are used to.  The most effective treatment for DOMS is massage or exercising at a low intensity. You should avoid exercising the same muscles at high intensity until the DOMS has passed or you are at an increased risk of injury.  Massage can reduce DOMS meaning the pain eases quicker and you can train again sooner with less risk of injury.

Sports massage can also help with the routine aches and pains associated with regular or intense training as well as being an effective way to relax and unwind.

If you’re getting pain while you exercise or pain that lasts longer than 48 hours, it could be something else, so it would be advisable to book an osteopathy initial consultation, as this includes a full assessment and treatment plan, which a sports massage appointment does not.
